Founded in 1993 by Mark Asher, and known for 20+ years as Asher Associates Architects, the firm recently announced their name change, derivative of their newest partnership with long-time employee Deborah Slaunwhite.
Over the past decade, Slaunwhite has increased her leadership in firm management, client relations and business development which inevitably lead to her promotion to an associate position in 2012. Following her most recent promotion to partner, joining founder Mark Asher, the firm is now known as Asher Slaunwhite Architects.
“From the day Deborah joined the firm, there was instant chemistry in terms of design, client relations, and project management,” said Asher. “She has become the person everyone in the office looks to for advice. Her promotion marks an evolution of the firm, a recognition of how far we’ve come, and a promise that we’re only getting better.”
Slaunwhite’s early career consists of restoring the Taft Museum of Art 1820s House, design for affordable housing and permanent cottage residences for Hurricane Katrina victims. Through her work in single- and multi-family residential design and historic preservation, Slaunwhite went on to complete Asher projects which included residences in Avalon and Stone Harbor.
“I had never been to the Jersey Shore when I met Mark,” said Slaunwhite, referencing the firm’s extensive portfolio of coastal architecture. “But we spoke the same language of quality and attention to detail. The type of architecture we do here is what I’m most comfortable doing. I look forward to playing an active role in the firm’s continued growth and direction.”
In her new position, Slaunwhite is currently managing renovations of custom homes in both Avalon and Stone Harbor, as well as a historic property in Mystic, Connecticut.
