An evening of purpose, passion, and community impact
On October 10th, New York Giants Captain Bobby Okereke opened his home to host the inaugural Nigerian American Football Outreach Fundraiser, a heartfelt and inspiring evening planned and produced by VPR Branding. The event marked a milestone moment for Okereke—not only as a professional athlete but as a philanthropist and community leader dedicated to giving back to his roots and using the power of sport for good. The event brought together friends, family, athletes, and supporters for a shared mission—to build a bridge between the U.S. and Nigeria through the growing sport of flag football.

The night’s mission was clear: to create awareness and raise funds for the Nigerian American Flag Football Association. Through NAFA, Okereke aims to develop opportunities for youth in Nigeria by providing access to training, mentorship, and essential resources. The Nigerian American Football Outreach Foundation supports coaches, staff, equipment, facilities, housing, and food recovery programs, while also focusing on economic empowerment initiatives that promote long-term community growth.
As the General Manager of Team Nigeria, Okereke’s goal is to build a sustainable pipeline of athletic and leadership talent—one that will ultimately culminate in the nation’s participation in the 2028 Olympic Flag Football Games. The initiative reflects Bobby’s deep belief in the unifying and transformative power of sports, not only as competition but as a vehicle for education, opportunity, and social change.
The evening featured an impressive silent and live auction, where guests bid on exclusive experiences and signed memorabilia from some of the NFL’s biggest names, including Hall of Famers and current stars. Local businesses and sponsors contributed bespoke packages and items, demonstrating a shared commitment to Okereke’s vision of cross-cultural collaboration and community upliftment. Every contribution directly benefits NAFA’s programs in Nigeria and helps ensure the future success of its athletes.

One of the most emotional highlights came mid-evening when Okereke was surprised with the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for the New York Giants—an honor presented by Allison Stangeby, Vice President of Community and Corporate Relations for the NY Giants. The award, one of the NFL’s most prestigious recognitions, celebrates players who demonstrate excellence both on and off the field.

In a powerful moment of humility, Okereke addressed the room with gratitude and grace, stating, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” His father, Kingsley Okereke, followed with a touching speech that reflected on the family’s journey, their Nigerian heritage, and the pride of seeing Bobby not only succeed but lead with heart and purpose.

The Nigerian American Football Association represents more than a sports initiative—it’s a cultural bridge between continents, a movement to empower the next generation, and a call to action for global unity through athletic development. As Okereke continues to grow the foundation’s reach, his leadership sets a precedent for what it means to use one’s platform for meaningful change.
Bobby’s vision for NAFA is rooted in legacy—uniting communities, uplifting athletes, and using sport as a platform for global connection and positive change.
