Melbourne designer Toni Maticevski describes his latest AW19 collection as “a collision between nature and modern technology.” Best-known for his thoughtful fabric application, impeccable tailoring and creative use of color and texture, this season dares onlookers to reconsider technical materials as something wearable. Resembling modern art at times, Maticevski’s sculptural silhouettes are softened this season by way of embellishments. A moody color scheme is contrasted with provocative netting and metallics, including a variety of sequins and a gold and silver foil jersey. Elsewhere, billows of neutral-hued tulle and draped chiffon emphasize volume and dizzolve any harsh lines—translating to a tough, yet still feminine feel.
