In honor of Women’s History Month, New Jersey Dance Company Nai Ni Chen will team up with the world-renowned Ahn Trio at NJPAC’s Victoria Theater in Newark, NJ on Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. This collaboration will premiere the Company’s groundbreaking production: A Quest for Freedom, a performance that explores the pursuit of freedom in every aspect of the artist’s life. Each dance will highlight a different part of her journey as an immigrant woman artist who ultimately, has her own unique perspective about freedom in America.
In A Quest for Freedom, the Ahn Trio will engage the audience with original music including their audacious (yet classical) version of Purple Rain by Prince, Space Oddity by David Bowie, Flight by Kenji Bunch and much more. Nai Ni Chen’s choreography, which includes seven dancers, will be seamlessly integrated with the brilliant artistry of the Ahn Trio and other original scores. In addition, Nai Ni Chen Dance Company has also commissioned Bunch to compose new music, Concrete Stream, which will also allow dancers to interact with the musicians. The production will be complemented by the visual art of Jayanthi Moorthy, a multi-media artist draws influence from the antiquated religious and community practices of Indian culture.
