Balanced on top of a mountain, goggles on, ski tips just over the edge waiting for the descent is the scene skiers dream of in between trips to a favorite resort. Few, however, likely consider what they are wearing in this picture. HEAD Sportswear helps complete the scene, putting the skier in high-performing, yet highly fashionable pieces from its new Legacy Collection in collaboration with Lindsey Vonn. There is, perhaps, no better person to turn to when building a ski line. Lindsey Vonn is an Olympic gold medalist, earned two Olympic bronze medals, and has an astonishing 82 World Cup victories. There are arguably no athletes as skilled on the slopes. But her honors go even further as she was also named to Sports Illustrated “Fashionable 50” for three consecutive years. Vonn epitomizes the blending of fashion and performance making her the ideal partner for HEAD Sportswear, a company she has worked with for the past twelve years.

Vonn says of the partnership, “Working with them for so long, we know each other well and have the same high standards for the fit and performance of the materials and design. I need to know that every part of the line is something I’d wear so I make a point of being a part of the process from start to finish.”

The Legacy Collection is a completely new look for the HEAD Sportswear brand that prides itself on creating unique ski wear. Designing this fashion-forward collection that ensures warmth, breathability, and movement is science for HEAD Sportswear. The pieces are developed at its HEAD Sportswear headquarters in Austria, engineered in Italy, and finally manufactured in Europe. The materials are both high tech and eco-friendly incorporating products such as cashmere and ethically sourced white goose down.

Beyond the technology is the design–the fashionable look for a skier whether on the slopes or sitting fireside. Vonn’s influence and love of the 70s is in every piece. “I’ve always been inspired by the 70s oversized jackets and slim-fitted, sexy pants. The Legacy Collection allows any woman to feel strong, beautiful, and sleek, all at the same time,” she said.

The Jet Pants are a perfect example of form meeting function. They are made from high-performance Schoeller Softshell material that offers 4-way-stretch and warmth while the form-fitting shape provides instant sophistication and a touch of glamour. The beautifully cut cashmere sweaters are made at a knitting mill in Florence to assure the highest quality and construction. The collection features sweaters and bodysuits, jackets and vests, pants and overalls. Vonn said her favorite piece is the Daisy Vest with a unique pink floral print that stands out on the mountain as well as next to the traditional black and white that are staples of the Legacy Collection. In a nod to Vonn, an image of her dog Lucy can be found on the lining of some of the pieces.

Vonn may not be setting World Cup records these days, but she maintains a busy lifestyle. Along with her work with HEAD Sportswear, she also has a production company and is just releasing her memoir “Rise.” Vonn also heads the Lindsey Vonn Foundation that provides scholarships for academic, athletic, and enrichment activities. The foundation also offers 2-day camps that feature games and activities designed to move participants out of their comfort zones to build confidence as well as camaraderie. The goal of the foundation is to “give future generations the tools they need to reach their goals and discover their grit within.”
