If you’re feeling more adventurous, their adult courses run six weeks for two hours a week. Artesana Pottery
Discover your passion for pottery with Artesana Pottery in Union City, NJ. The studio, founded in 2021 by Ana Gonzalez, offers access to five electric wheels, one kick wheel, an electric kiln, a slab roller, wedging tables, and a variety of mid-fire glazes. One-day workshops are available at Artesana Pottery for those just starting out for $90 per person. Workshops can only be taken once and include instruction at the wheel, clay, and use of studio tools. At the end of your two-hour session, you get to keep one of your creations. All pieces, priced at $15 for each additional one you keep, are trimmed, glazed, and fired by Gonzalez.
Artesana Pottery also offers sessions that meet four times a month for more dedicated potters. Their monthly fee of $210 includes two hours of instruction a week, weekly open studio hours, use of studio glazes, and a shelf to store your work and tools. Both run for six weeks and include three-hour weekly classes, clay, kiln firing access, glazes and materials, and use of studio machinery, tools, and equipment. Intermediate classes are available for those who have taken at least two beginner pottery classes. Hugs Ceramics also offers one-time classes for $95 if you just want to try pottery out without any commitment. Their “Try It Out” classes allow you to keep one of your creations which they fire and glaze for you.
In addition to their classes, Hugs Ceramics also hosts private parties. Parties can accommodate up to eight people and require a minimum of four people to book. For $100 per person, your party gains access to two hours of instruction, clay, tools, kiln firings, and glazing services. Pottery painting pieces are glazed and fired for you by the studio and ready for pickup after a week. Fire Me Up Studio offers various six-week sessions as well as “Try It” classes for $69 that include instruction and one finished piece. Their “More Than Mud” classes are $299 and include access to the mudroom during open studio hours, 16 Mayco Stoneware dipping glazes, a slab roller, use of studio tools, 10% off mudroom workshops, and 10 pounds of clay.
Fire Me Up Studio’s “Mudroom Membership” is available to experienced potters and those who have completed a six-week course. Membership includes a personal shelf for your work, access to the mudroom during open studio hours, 16 Mayco Stoneware dipping glazes, a slab roller, use of studio tools, and 10% off mudroom workshops for $189 a month. The studio also hosts private events, either in a private room or their main studio, and offers private sessions.
