Olympic Host Cities to Visit Before Rio 2016

In just a couple of months, athletes from around the world will be traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to compete in the thirty-first Olympic Summer Games. You can also travel like a champion this summer to any of these gold-medal worthy locations.

1) Sydney, Australia (2000) Swim over to Sydney and find yourself at Emirates One and Only Wolgan Valley Resort. At the 7,000 acre nature reservation, guests can submerge themselves in their own private villas. The resort features thirty-six Heritage Villas, each equipped with double-sided fireplaces, skylight showers, and glass-enclosed private pools.

2) Athens, Greece (2004)

Refresh yourself within the isolation of the Athenian Riviera at the Grand Resort Lagonissi. Located in the southern suburbs of Athens, the first of the olympic host cities, this 72-acre private peninsula overlooks the Saronic Gulf. Aside from the main room terraces, guests can enjoy the additional sight of the bright blue sea from beach bungalows and private villas.

3) Beijing, China (2008)

Bliss in Beijing can be found at the Sunrise Kempinski Hotel, located on the Yanqi Lake. Lay back and find yourself amazed at the view of the Yanshan Mountain and historic Mutianyu Great Wall. Visitors are welcomed to the Yanqi Lake Amusement for white water rafting, boating tours, and other activities on the lake.

4) London, United Kingdom (2012)

Relax in the most recent of the Olympic host cities along the historic River Thames at the modern Mondrian London. Take in the panoramic view of the London skyline and Blackfriars Bridge and stop inside the Dandelyan lounge bar for a cocktail or to nearby restaurant, Sea Containers for a seasonal family-style meal. With the Waterloo Station close by, visitors also have quick access to all that London has to offer.

5) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2016)

If you’re attending this year’s Olympic Games, there are few accommodations in Rio that rival the Fasano Hotel at Ipanema Beach. 6) Tokyo, Japan (2020)
